WBJEE Eligibility Criteria 2019

In order to participate in WBJEE 2019 examination, candidates must first fulfil the eligibility criteria and then apply for the exam Online on the Official website. Eligibility criteria differs from course to course. And there are many criteria that needs to be checked, failing to fulfil the eligibility criteria will lead to rejection of application form.

Note

Domicile requirement will be different for the various participating institutes

WBJEE 2019 Eligibility criteria

  • Citizenship:Candidate must be a citizen of India.
  • Age:
    1. Lower age limit - The candidate must be of 17 years as on 31.12.2019. A candidate should have been born on or before 31.12.2002.
    2. Upper age limit - There is no upper age limit in appearing in the WBJEE-2019.

However, for admission to the degree level Marine Engineering Course the lower age limit is 17 years as on 31.12.2019 and the upper age limit is 25 Years as on 31.12.2019.

Qualifying examination

  • For Engineering course:Candidate must have passed ‘10+2’ examination with Subjects - Physics and Mathematics along with any one of these subjects (Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science / Computer Application) as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks in (both theory and practical wherever applicable) all the three subjects as stated above in regular class mode.
  • For Pharmacy course:Candidate must have passed ‘10+2’ examination with subjects - Physics and Chemistry along with any one of these subjects (Mathematics / Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science / Computer Application) as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in all the three subjects in regular class mode.
    Note

    The Board of the Qualifying Examination must be recognized by the Central Government or the concerned State Government and candidates having 10+2 education from non-formal and non-class rooms based education such as National Institute of Open Schooling, open school systems etc., are not eligible for B.Pharm course

Qualifying Marks

  • For Engineering course:
    1. Candidates must have obtained at least 45% marks and 40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category i.e., SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD in the above mentioned three subjects (qualifying exam) taken together.
    2. Must have passed English in the ‘10+2’ examination with at least 30% marks.
  • For Pharmacy course:
    1. Candidates must have obtained at least 45% marks and 40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category i.e., SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD in the above mentioned three subjects (qualifying exam) taken together.
    2. Must have passed English in the ‘10+2’ examination with at least 30% marks.

Another important consideration for academic qualification

A candidate appearing in 10 + 2 exam (qualifying exam) may take up WBJEE 2019 exam too but shall not be eligible for seat allotment if he/she does not pass the qualifying exam.

Note
  1. WBJEE neither verify the information provided by the candidate during on line application nor verify any certificate (date of birth, domicile, income, reservation category, academic qualification etc., ) for deciding the eligibility of the candidate.
  2. Admit cards will be issued only on the basis of the information candidate has provided. Also, there is no scope of changing/correcting any information after the last date of online application.
  3. All verifications are done during counselling and subsequent admission and registration with the university.
  4. If at any stage after examination it is found on scrutiny that the applicant is otherwise ineligible, his/her candidature shall be treated as cancelled even if he/she secured a Merit Rank in the WBJEE and/or a seat has been allotted to the candidate.

Special eligibility criteria

Special eligibility criteria in terms of academic qualifications for admission to some specific Universities/ University Departments/ Institutions or for admission to some specific courses as per norms and standards of the regularity authorities.

This criteria is restricted only to the Universities mentioned below and all other institutes/universities will adhere to the above mentioned eligibility criteria.

  • Institute specific special eligibility criteria

    University of Calcutta

    1. All available Courses except Jute & Fibre Technology

      Qualifying examination:Must Pass ‘10+2’ or equivalent Examination from a recognised Council Board in regular class mode with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects

      Qualifying marks:: At least 60% (55% for Reserve Category students e.g. SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD) marks in the above three subjects taken together, individual pass marks (both in theory & practical where ever applicable) in each of the subjects and pass marks in English with a minimum of 30% in the said qualifying examination.

    2. Jute & Fibre Technology

      Qualifying examination:They must pass ‘10+2’ or equivalent examination from any recognised Council/ Board in regular class mode with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology as compulsory subjects

      Qualifying marks:At least 60% (50% for Reserve Category students e.g. SC, ST, OBC-A,OBC-B,PwD) marks in the above three subjects taken together and with at least 30% marks in English.

  • Jadavpur University (Faculty of Engineering & Technology)
    1. All available courses including Bachelor of Pharmacy and five Year degree course in Architecture

      Qualifying examination:Must Pass ‘10+2’ or equivalent Examination from a recognised Council/ Board in regular class mode with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects

      Qualifying marks:: At least 60% (45% for Reserve Category Students e.g. SC,ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD) marks in above three subjects taken together. Individual pass marks (both in theory & practical where ever applicable) in each of the above three subjects. Minimum 60% (45% for Reserve Category Students e.g. SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD) marks in Mathematics and at least pass marks in English with a minimum of 30% in the said qualifying examination.

    2. Additional requirement for Five Year Degree Course in Architecture

      Besides the same academic qualifications as stated above, candidates must qualify either in NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the COA (Council of Architecture) or in the Paper-II of JEE- Main 2019

  • West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences B. Tech (Dairy Technology) course

    Qualifying examination:Candidate must have passed the Qualifying Examination i.e. the ‘10+2’ examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in all the three subjects as stated above in regular Class mode from any recognized Council/ Board.

    Qualifying marks :Must have obtained at least 50% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category e.g. SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English taken together.

    Note

    Candidates of other boards/ Councils (10+2) level passed from institutions in West Bengal will be considered provided that he/ she is a domicile in West Bengal.

  • Neotia University
    1. B. Tech courses in Computer Science & Engineering and Robotic Engineering

      Qualifying examination:Pass ‘10+2’ or equivalent Examination with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/ Computer Science as compulsory subjects

      Qualifying marks:At least 60% marks < in the above Three subjects taken together.

    2. B. Tech courses in other branches

      Qualifying examination:Pass ‘10+2’ or equivalent Examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

      Qualifying marks:At least 60% marks in the above three subjects taken together and at least 50% marks in English.

    3. B. Tech course in Marine Engineering

      Qualifying examination: Pass ‘10+2’ or equivalent Examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects

      Qualifying marks:At least 60% marks in the above three subjects taken together and at least 50% marks in English.

  • Aliah University

    Qualifying examination:Candidates must have opted Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics having at least 100 marks in total in each subject of the final exam (10+2)

    Qualifying marks:Must secure at least 60% overall in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken together in 12th with individual pass marks in all three subjects in regular class mode

  • Course specific special eligibility criteria
    1. The degree course in Marine Engineering As per the norms and standards of the Director General of Shipping, Government of India:

      Qualifying examination: Candidates must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/Board in regular class mode with.

      Qualifying marks: 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken together with individual pass marks (both in theory and practical where ever applicable) in each of the said subjects.Minimum of 50% marks in English as subject in either in ‘10’ standard or in ‘10+2’ standard.

      The requirements are applicable for the Marine Engineering Course in any of the participating Institution.

  • The Five Year degree Course in Architecture

    As per the norms and standards of the Council of Architecture (COA):

    1. No candidate with less than 50% marks in aggregate shall be admitted to the architecture course unless he/she has passed an examination at the end of new ‘10+2’ scheme of Senior School Certificate Examination or equivalent with Mathematics as a subject of Examination at the 10+2 level.
    2. Candidate must also qualify either in the NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the Council of Architecture, New Delhi or in Paper 2 of JEE Mains conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education.
    3. These requirements are applicable for the five year degree course in Architecture in any of the participating Institutions except the Jadavpur University,
  • Requirements in terms of Residential/Domicile Criteria
    1. There is no particular Residential/Domicile requirement to appear for WBJEE 2019
    2. However the State (West Bengal) Residential/Domicile requirement is applicable for admission to any Government aided Engineering / Technology / Pharmacy Colleges
    3. Also, it is applicable for admission to any reserved category (SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD, TFW) in any course in any institute.
    4. The candidate needs to download the required proforma and keep the certificate ready to be produced during counseling, admission etc.
    5. If the certificate is then found to be invalid, the candidate will lose the opportunity of admission in institutes.

(a) Criteria to be treated as domicile of West Bengal and applicable proforma of certificate

Only those candidates will be treated as domicile of West Bengal who are either,

  • Residing in West Bengal continuously at least for last 10 (ten) < years as on 31.12.2018

    or

    whose parent(s) is/are permanent resident(s) of West Bengal having permanent address within the State of West Bengal.
  • In case of the above first statement i.e residing in WB for 10 years, then a certificate is to be obtained as per forma ‘a1’ or proforma ‘a2’.
  • In case of the above second statement, a certificate is to be obtained in proforma ‘b’ or the candidate has to produce in original any two of Voter ID card/ Adhaar card/ Passport/ Ration card belonging to his/her parents. The said documents would justify that the residential address of parent(s) is in West Bengal.
  • Proforma ‘a1’ and ‘b’ are to be certified by Government Officials as detailed below and proforma ‘a2’ is to be certified by the Head of the Institution, where from the candidate has passed or appeared 10+2 level examination.
  • Candidates from SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD who possess valid caste certificate issued by competent officials of the Govt. Of West Bengal do not require domicile certificates as such.
    Note

    Domicile certificate must be issued on or after 31.12.2018

Competent Authority to issue Domicile certificate

  • Profarma ‘a1’ or ‘b’ must be signed and certified by any of the following competent authorities from Central Government or State Government who has local jurisdiction over the place of the permanent residence of the concerned candidate or his/her parents
    1. District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Deputy Magistrate, Deputy Collector, Sub-Divisional Officer, Block Development Officer.
    2. Superintendent of Police, Additional Superintendent of Police, Sub Divisional Police Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police
    3. Commissioner, Additional Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner of Police Commissionerate
    4. Judicial Magistrate of any rank or position in the concerned district or Metropolitan locality or Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta or Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
    5. Corporation Area – Commissioner, Additional Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner
    6. Assistant Secretary or above in the Secretariat to the Government of West Bengal (including GTA) or Central Government
    7. Deputy Director or above in the Directorate to the Government of West Bengal or Central Government
  • Officials who issue domicile certificate must provide their Name, Designation, Place of Posting with Address, Landline/Mobile number. Even Identity card number must be provided if available.
  • Certificates from any authority other than those listed above will not be accepted.
  • Domicile certificated issued by any elected people’s representative such as municipal commissioner, Councillor of municipal corporation/municipality, member of three-tier panchayat system or GTA, MLA or MP are not acceptable for WBJEE 2019.
  • Profarma ‘a2’ must be signed and certified by the Head of the Institution from which the candidate has passed or will appear in 10+2 examination.
