JEE Main Reservation Criteria 2019

Under Government of India reservation policy, JEE Main exam board reserves a certain number of seats for different categories. National Testing Agency (NTA), the governing body of JEE Main doesn’t involve in seat allocation or admission procedures. NTA is only an examination conducting body. After declaration of result, the data is handed over to CENTRALISED SEAT ALLOCATION BOARD (CSAB)/JoSAA or the concerned State government/institute for Seat Allocation Process and admission procedure.

The NTA does not collect the information regarding total number of seats available in the institutions and reservation criteria followed by the institutions.

As per Government of India rules candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved for them based on relaxed criteria. The categories are:

  1. Other Backward Classes (OBC) if they belong to Non Creamy Layer (NCL)
  2. Scheduled Castes (SC)
  3. Scheduled Tribes (ST)
  4. Persons with Disability (PwD) with 40% or more disability

Benefit of reservation for admission to NITs/IIITs and CFTIs shall be given only to those classes/ castes/tribes which are in the respective central list published by the Govt. of India.

Note
  1. For admission to State Engineering colleges who have opted for admission through JEE (Main)- 2019, the reservation rules of that State shall apply. The letter/e-mails/grievances/RTI cases/Court cases regarding reservation criteria will not be entertained by NTA.
  2. Final List of Institutions admitting students (with intake in each discipline and category as per reservation) through JEE (Main)-2019 shall be available on the website of SEAT ALLOCATION BOARD in the month of May/June 2019.

Note
  1. The Telangana state holds 3 quota - Home State Quota, Other State Quota and Andhra Pradesh State Quota.
  2. All the vacant home state quota seats will be converted to All India Seats for the specified category.

JEE Main SC/ST Reservation 2019

Government of India reserves seats for candidates belonging to certain category. And candidates who want to claim reservation must choose their category while filling the application form and must meet the requirements for that category and finally submit required documents and certificates during further process.

According to GOI policy, SC and ST reserves 15% and 7.5% seats respectively.

JEE Main PwD Reservation 2019

PwD candidates who wants to qualify for JEE Advanced exam or gain admission through JEE Main exam are reserved 3% of seats under Government of India reservation policy. Candidates who want to claim reservation must choose their category while filling the application form and must meet the requirements for that category and finally submit required documents and certificates during further process.

JEE Main Reservation for Female 2019

A female candidate can now apply for admission under Women Quota System which reserves 5% of total seats for women.

Women can claim admission under All India quota or Women Quota System, most of the colleges and universities reserve 5% of seats for female candidates.

Note

For PwD female candidates, the relaxation is approximately a further 3%.

JEE Main State Wise Reservation 2019

The state universities follow reservation policy set up by the state government. Candidates will be divided on the basis of their place of birth/origin viz Home state quota and Other state quota. If the candidate belongs to the state where the university is located in then he is granted seat under Home state quota else if the candidate belongs to other state then he/she will be granted seat under Other state quota.

Home State Quota:

Candidates belonging to the particular state and having passed Class XII in that state, can claim reservation from the University located in that particular State. It is noted that Home state quota reserves 50% of seats for Home state candidates.

Other State Quota:

Candidates belonging to any state and applying for admission to Universities which is located in a state other than their home state. Other state quota reserves 50% of seats for candidates belonging to other state.

Eligibility Under different quota

The eligibility of candidates in NITs, State Enginering colleges under different quotas is given below:

NIT Goa Home State Quota 40% of those candidates will be considered whose home quota state is Goa and in case,there are vacant seats,10% seats will be filled by candidates from Dama & Diu,Dadar & Nagar Haveli and Lakshadweep.
Other States Quota Candidates whose home state is not Goa,Daman & Diu,Dadar&Nagar Haveli and Lakshadweep can apply for admission.

JEE Main Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) wise Reservation 2019

As per GOI reservation policy, Economically Weaker Sections of the society is granted with 10% of reservation for admission in Central Educational Institutions. It is necessary to identify the candidates belonging to EWS category from amongst the candidates of JEE(Main) January and JEE(Main) April 2019. Candidates applying for JEE Main January 2019 as well as April 2019 examinations must mention that they come under EWS category while filling the application form for JEE Main in the official website between March 11th to 15th, 2019. The EWS Category Certificate is not to be uploaded in the JEE (Main) Portal. However, the same will be required at the time of filling up of the application for JEE (Advanced). It is implemented as per the OM No. 20013/01/2018-BC-II dated January 17, 2019 issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the OM No. 12-4/2019-U1 dated 17.01.2019 as well as the Letters No 35-2/2019-T.S.I dated 21.01.2019, 01.02.2019, 04.02.2019 and 15.02.2019 of MHRD Department of Higher Education.
