JEE Main Counselling 2019

JOSAA conducts JEE Main Counselling and Seat Allotment in online mode and candidates can register in the 2nd week of June 2020. NTA, the board authority in charge of JEE Main 2020 exams which shall be conducted in the month of January and April, twice. The best score of these 2 will be considered to allot ranks and for further counselling and seat allotment. Counselling and seat allotment will be based on the candidate’s performance, marks and their preferred institutes marked during the counselling rounds. Two mock rounds of seat allotment will be carried out by JoSAA for the ease of candidates which will be followed by 7 rounds of Counselling and Seat allotment. NITs, IIEST, IIITs (Triple-I-Ts) and Other - GFTIs participate in the counselling and seat allotment process.

Procedure for Counselling

Step 1 – Online Registration

Candidates will have to register on JoSAA website in online mode by entering roll number and password in order to participate in JEE Main 2020 counselling and seat allotment rounds.

Step 2 - Online Choice Filling & Locking

Candidates must fill and lock the choices in order of the preference of colleges and B.E/B.Tech programmes. Seat allotment will be done based on the choices entered.

A printout of choices filled and locked can be taken by clicking on the link ‘Printing of locked choices’ on the official website.

Seat allotment will be commenced after this step.

Step 3: Seat Allotment

Seat allotment is done based on the availability of seats, merit and preference entered by the candidates. After which two mock allotment rounds will carried out to help the candidates familiarize with the process


Step 4: Payment of Fee & Seat Acceptance

Once the seat is allotted, candidates will have to choose any one of the following options :

Freeze: If candidates are satisfied with seat allotted to them and do not wish to participate in further rounds, they will have to choose this option.

Float: In case, candidates need to keep the seat allotted and also wish to upgrade their seat, they must follow this option.

Slide: If candidates accept the seat allotted and wish to upgrade the course in the same institute, they will have to stick to this option.

Withdraw: If candidates have already accepted the seat, they can withdraw the seat by reporting at the institute allotted before the last round of seat allotment.

To confirm the seat, candidates will have to pay the fees through SBI Net Banking or e-Challan. The seat acceptance fee (SAF) is Rs 45,000 for all the candidates except SC/ ST/ SC-PwD/ ST-PwD/ GEN-PwD/ OBC-NCL-PwD. Candidates who belong to SC/ ST/ SC-PwD/ ST-PwD/ GEN-PwD/ OBC-NCL-PwD categories will have to pay Rs. 20,000 as SAF.

Step 5: Verification of Documents

The following documents need to be produced at the time of verification:

  1. 3 passport size photographs (the same as uploaded during registration)

  2. Provisional JoSAA seat allotment letter

  3. Photo identity card

  4. Proof of seat acceptance fee payment

  5. JEE Main 2020 Admit Card

  6. Date of birth proof

  7. JEE Main 2020 Score Card

  8. Class XII Mark sheet

  9. Category certificate (if applicable)

Step 6: Final Reporting at the Allotted Institute

Once verification is done, candidates will have to report at the allotted institute and pay the balance fees in the institute, confirm the admission.

Changes or Modifications of Personal Details

Candidates will NOT be allowed to change their personal details such as name, father’s/mother’s/guardian’s name, date of birth, Class XII (or equivalent) examination board and (birth) category at the time of registration in JoSAA website. But candidates can change their state of eligibility, nationality and gender (subject to conditions stated below).

If the documents are found to be invalid for reasons other than wilful forgery/act of cheating, then the following rules will be applied in addition to the change of category tag or gender or nationality:

  • If the EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD or DS certificate is found to be invalid or not produced AND the candidates satisfies all other requirements AND the seat is allocated in the Open category, then the offer of admission will be confirmed.

  • If the OBC-NCL certificate is found to be invalid or not produced AND the candidate satisfies all other requirements AND the seat is allocated in OBC-NCL category, then

    • Allocated seat will be cancelled

    • The candidate will be considered for seat allocation as a GEN candidate in the subsequent round(s) of seat allocation (if any), provided all other criteria are satisfied [e.g., present in the respective rank list, etc.].

    • The above rule will be applied to Gen-EWS, DS, SC or ST, if the certificate is found to be invalid or not produced.

  • If the PwD certificate is found to be invalid or not produced AND the candidate satisfies all other requirements AND the seat is allocated under the PwD category, then

    • Allocated seat will be cancelled

    • The candidate will be considered for seat allocation in the subsequent round(s) of seat allocation (if any), in his/her respective parent category (viz., GEN, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC or ST), provided all other criteria are satisfied [e.g., present in the respective rank list, etc.]

  • If a female candidate wrongly declares the gender as male and is allotted a seat in an academic program where female candidates are restricted, the allotted seat will be cancelled. Similarly, if a male candidate wrongly declares the gender as female and is allotted a Female-Only seat, the allotted seat will be cancelled. Such candidates will be considered for seat allocation in the subsequent round(s) of seat allocation (if any), by changing the gender.

  • If a foreign national (other than PIO/OCI) wrongly declares the nationality as PIO/OCI, or if an Indian/PIO/OCI wrongly declares as foreign national, then the allotted seat will be cancelled during document verification. Such candidates will be considered for seat allocation in the subsequent round(s) of seat allocation (if any), by changing the nationality.

  • If an OCI/PIO candidate wrongly declares the nationality as foreign national, then the allotted seat will be cancelled during the document verification. Such candidates will be considered for seat allocation in the subsequent round(s) of seat allocation (if any), provided they meet the JEE(Main) cutoff marks. Also, they are allowed to fill-in choices for various academic programs at NIT/IIITs/GFTIs.

CSAB NEUT Counselling

  • This counselling is conducted for filling up supernumerary seats in North East Region and Union Territories.

  • It would be organized by the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB).

  • The counselling for all the qualified candidates of North East region and Union Territories will commence in June 2020.

CSAB SFTI Counselling

  • This counselling is conducted for admitting candidates in Self Financing Technical Institutes.

  • The Seat allocation will be strictly based on the order of preference filled by the candidates based on their JEE Main All India Rank (AIR) in Paper I and Paper II respectively.

  • There are 34 participating institutes in CSAB SFTI.
