JEE Advanced Reservation Criteria 2019

JEE Advanced 2019 applicants belonging to certain categories are admitted under the seats reserved for them in accordance with the rules of the Government of India. Candidates wanting to claim benefits under reservation based on caste and tribe must ensure that their respective caste/tribe is mentioned in the respective central list of of corresponding states published by the Government of India. Benefits or Exemptions coming under reservation will be based on GOI and it is followed by the institutes participating in the JEE Advanced Counselling. Candidates who want to claim reservation must without fail provide valid documents/certificates to support their claim.

Note
  1. Rest 50.5% seats are Open for all and within each of the four categories i.e., Open (General), SC, ST and OBC-NCL, 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates (in each of OPEN, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST category seats).
  2. Candidates must submit required certificates/documents to support their claim for reservation.

Candidates belonging to OBC-NCL are admitted under the seats reserved for them under the rules and guidelines laid down by Government of India.

Important Points:

  • OBCs should be listed in the current updated central list of OBCs (www.ncbc.nic.in).
  • OBCs present in the state list but not covered in the central list of OBCs (as per the list in www.ncbc.nic.in) are not eligible to claim the reservation.
  • The criteria for Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) will be as per the notification of Government of India.
  • Candidates belonging to the creamy layer of OBC are NOT entitled for reservation.
  • Candidates from OBC (CL) shall compete for Open Seats i.e. the seats for which everyone is eligible.
  • Unfilled seats reserved under OBC-NCL category will be de-reserved to OPEN category seats.

Documents required for OBC(NCL) candidates: Original and 1 attested photocopy of OBC-NCL category certificate (from the Central List available on www.ncbc.nic.in) required to be issued by the suitable authority.

Note

The category of a candidate as entered in the database, which will be made available by the JEE Apex Board [which conducts JEE (Main) 2019 examination], will be final and requests for change of category will NOT be entertained.

3. JEE Advanced Reservation Criteria for PWD 2019

PwD applicants of JEE Advanced 2019 can avail reservation benefits under Government of India reservation policy. Read below for JEE Advanced 2019 reservation criteria for PwD candidates.

Person with disabilities (PWD) are admitted under the seats reserved for them under the rules and guidelines laid down by Government of India.

Scribe for PwD candidates

PwD candidates with Benchmark disabilities will have scribe facility along with Compensatory time provided they register their requirements for the scribe at the time of registration with proper documentation. The compensatory time will be 20 minutes per hour.

Note

If, in case, the candidate availing the above facility/ies is found ineligible at a later stage then his/her candidature shall be cancelled for JEE Advanced 2019.

4. JEE Advanced Reservation Criteria for Defence Service candidates 2019

Defence service applicants of JEE Advanced 2019 can avail reservation benefits under Government of India reservation policy. Read below for JEE Advanced 2019 reservation criteria for Defence service candidates.

Defence Service (DS) candidates are children of defence/paramilitary personnel killed or permanently disabled in action during war or peacetime operations.

  1. Two seats are available for preferential allotment in each Institute for DS candidates.
  2. And to avail this preferential allotment, a DS candidate must be in the Common Rank List of JEE (Advanced) 2019

5. JEE Advanced Reservation Criteria for Foreign Nationals 2019

Foreign National applicants of JEE Advanced 2019 can avail reservation benefits under Government of India reservation policy. Read below for JEE Advanced 2019 reservation criteria for Foreign Nationals

Candidates who fall under the following category will be considered as Foreign Nationals for JEE Advanced:

  1. Non-citizens of India (by birth or naturalized)
  2. Non-OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) and Non-PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) category
  3. Candidates whose parents are not citizens of India and do not come under OCI/PIO category at the time of JEE Advanced Registration.

Seats allotted to foreign nationals are supernumerary with a cap of 10% of the total number of seats in every course.

Foreign nationals are outside the ambit of reservation of seats under the OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD (Persons with Disability) categories as mandated by Govt. of India.

6. JEE Advanced Reservation Criteria for Economically Weaker Sections (GEN-EWS)

General category candidates who come under Economically Weaker Section (GEN-EWS) will be reserved 10% of seats (this percentage has been bifurcated by individual IITs into two years and for 2019 it is coming out to be 4%). The seat matrix will show the percentage of seats reserved in every course in each individual IITs. The general category candidates who satisfy the condition given in the OM No. 20013/01/2018-BC-II dated January 17, 2019 issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment will be eligible to claim this reservation.

7. JEE Advanced Reservation Criteria for Female candidates 2019

Female applicants of JEE Advanced 2019 can avail reservation benefits under Government of India reservation policy. Read below for JEE Advanced 2019 reservation criteria for Female candidates.

Supernumerary seats for female candidates

IIT Council had taken a decision to uplift and empower female population, also to balance the gender in IIT UG programs. In order to achieve its objective in accordance with the directions of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, supernumerary seats will thus be created and offered to female candidates for improving the gender balance in the undergraduate programs in IITs.

Supernumerary seats will be offered:

  1. To only those female candidates who are declared qualified in JEE (Advanced) - 2019, and
  2. Strictly based on the performance in JEE (Advanced) – 2019.
